Let’s talk depression and anxiety – Free Download

Hey, here’s a fun topic for this lovely Tuesday – depression and anxiety!

Woo!

I have several theories as to why, but I think it’s safe to say that a large majority of Millennials have suffered with depression and anxiety in their lives. With the amount of pressure and expectations social media demands from us, it’s no wonder we’re constantly worrying about how our lives are portrayed.

I’ve always been pretty chill and laid back. I’ve never really cared to an insane level what people think of me. I’ve had a pretty solid life so far.

Things from the outside seemed perfect in my life, and internally, I always felt like it was.

It wasn’t until almost two years ago, I developed these intense panic attacks. I can’t even remember the first time it happened.

I just remember that my panic attacks started by happening periodically and quickly ended up happening every. single. day.

Can you imagine? It got to such a point, where I would expect them to come, probably making it worse for me.

The worst part is that I never knew what caused it. I would be out with friends, having an awesome time, and it would hit me.

My surroundings would get quiet, almost muted.

My vision would start closing in on me, like entering a dark tunnel.

Then, everything would get really, really loud.

And shortly after, I’d burst into tears and panic, having to leave the room as quickly as possible. I’d then enter into a dark, depressive state. The two would intertwine, leaving me in a mist of panic, sadness, depression and shame for having these feelings in the first place.

‘What is wrong with me?’ I’d think to myself.

A lesson I learned from my dad

Father’s Day is here and what better chance to reflect on all 24 years with him than now? A girl’s relationship with her father is a crucial part of who she is throughout life. Ever heard of daddy issues? Exactly. In my life I’m definitely in a transitional phase, like most twenty-somethings. Graduated, working and trying to just figure it all out, this is the … Continue reading A lesson I learned from my dad

Seven Things to Do on Sunday for a Productive Week Ahead

Yes, it’s that glorious Sunday. Oh the joy to be lazy all day before your jam-packed week starts.

I get it, trust me. Doing nothing is truly awesome. But you know what’s even better? Having a solid foundation for a an even greater week. Setting yourself up for success doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, once you start getting into the habit of doing these seven things every Sunday, you’ll notice how much more at ease you are during the week.

Here are the seven things you NEED to do every Sunday for a productive following week:

1.  Create a to-do list

I actually make a to -do list every morning, sometimes on weekends too. But, if for some reason I don’t make a list each day, I ALWAYS have a list of things I need to do for the following week. Having all your tasks laid out makes your morning so much easier on Monday. Instead of trying to remember all the things you need to do, your appointments for the week and the errands you promised yourself you would get to last Saturday, everything is perfectly written out ahead of time, meaning you probably won’t forget that thing you said you’d do a few days ago.

2. Clean out your emails

Top three books you HAVE to read

If you know anything about me at all, it’s that I love books. I’ve recently had really great luck with the books I’ve been reading. Three amazing books back-to-back and I couldn’t wait to recommend them.

  1. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Manson

This is my favorite book of all time. The title is already captivating enough, but the content inside is so impactful. As a quick note, this book isn’t about how to not give a fuck about anything. In fact, Manson makes this argument towards the very beginning. This book is about how to give a fuck about only the things that matter.

His humor and charm oozes out of each chapter and before you know it, you’ve already sped through 20 pages in what feels like a minute.

I recommend this book for anyone who feels like they’re paying attention to minute details in their lives and are feeling overwhelmed.

This is a book I will absolutely reread later on.

2.  The Defining Decade by Meg Jay

Working in a man’s world

I remember my very first experience with sexism in my workplace. It was a few years ago at a place I loved working at. Without getting into details, an opportunity arose for a group of both men and women to work on a project and present their work to a client. The group worked hard, day and night. After much admiration for the work, it our boss revealed that only a select few would present their work. All the men were selected, while the women were asked to stay back and brainstorm new Twitter content. Sounds thrilling, doesn’t it?

To be honest, when I heard about this, I didn’t really think too much about it. At least not until a close friend told me that this was a pattern, and it had been occurring even before I started working there. The women always did the work with the men, and were almost never selected to travel to present their work.

I remember thinking to myself ‘Ok, this is actually a thing. Happening to people close to me. Which means this could easily happen to me.’

I decided to get smart. I figured, if I prepare for something like this to happen, I’ll be ready to handle the situation and be vocal about my story.
